Near Lake Eyasi lives one of the last hunter-gatherer societies on Earth. The Hadzabe have occupied this scrubland for 10,000 years, speaking a click language unrelated to any other. Join hunters at dawn with bows and poison arrows, forage for wild berries and roots, and listen to a way of life the modern world almost forgot.
History & culture
Genetic and linguistic studies place the Hadzabe among the most ancient lineages in East Africa — descendants of the region's original inhabitants. Roughly 1,200 Hadza remain, maintaining a traditional lifestyle in the bush around Lake Eyasi despite centuries of pressure. Tourism arranged respectfully, in partnership with the community, provides income that helps protect both their land tenure and their choice to live as they wish.
